Königstein – in the Heart of the Hochtaunus Mountains

Königstein is located above the Rhine-Main lowlands, amidst forests and meadows of the Hochtaunus Mountains, part of the second largest nature park in Hesse.

The picturesque scenery radiates its magic upon arrival. Green hills, luscious orchards, colorful forests and more than 140 well marked circular walking trails, old castle ruins, pictorial villages and alleys characterize the surrounding area of Königstein.

The Health Climate Park Hochtaunus is the very first of its kind in Germany. It includes 34 trails that have been measured via performance physiology - 180 kilometers of nature that suit every fitness level.

Five of the twelve starting points in the 20 square kilometers wide area are in Königstein. Bio monitors in the spa and the Spa and City Information Center keep you updated on the current weather conditions. Here you also find hiking recommendations that suit your fitness level. The climate in the wooden landscape of the Hochtaunus Mountains is beneficial to your health and stimulates, strengthens and toughens your body. It perfectly complements the therapy at the Migraine and Headache Clinic Königstein.

The Spa Town Königstein: Small, But Powerful!

Königstein has been a state-approved spa town since 1935.

Take a relaxing walk in the well-kept spa gardens; enjoy the spa terrace and cozy downtown cafés. Find a large variety of attractive shopping facilities, hospitable restaurants, theatrical events and concerts.

Königstein received its town charter in 1313. To this day the town’s landmark, the castle ruin, is a reminder of the high period in medieval times. In the 19th century Königstein developed to be a famous spa town and summer residence for many bourgeois families from Frankfurt, in part due to the "water doctor" Georg Pingler. The Duke of Hesse-Nassau as well as the Rothschild family resided here. Today Königstein counts 15,800 residents.

There are many places of interest: walking through the lovely Woog Valley (Woogtal), visiting the two castles, strolling the romantic historic center and visiting the town museum are a must! If you are into sports you might enjoy the public baths (indoor spa and outdoor pool), the sports park or a bicycle tour.
